Heart to Heart…Shoulder to Shoulder: Loving the Lord God Part 2

Jesus stated in Mark 12:30, “And you must love the Lord your God with all your HEART, all your SOUL, all your MIND and all your STRENGTH” (NLT). What a tall order given by our Lord and Savior. In fact, it’s an order so tall that I’m convinced that we cannot do it simply in our own might: On the contrary, we need God’s help by way of His Holy Spirit in order to truly love Him how His word commands. To try otherwise will just leave us frustrated and often, even confused.

LOVING GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART
Have you ever thought about what it means to love God with all of your heart? When Jesus gave that command in Mark 12, I believe that He was teaching His audience that they must come to a place where they love God with EVERYTHING WITHIN THEMSELVES! Where their thoughts, words, actions and etc undoubtedly point to a life of devotion and dependence on the Lord. In essence He was communicating to them that there must be a total surrender of oneself in regards to loving God. This doesn’t mean that we’re perfect in our journey with the Lord but, that we’ve chosen to be perfectly committed.

It’s no surprise that a commitment like that to the Lord will be occasionally tested. But, I’ve found that one of the best ways to combat those tests is by maintain a childlike heart… a heart that says, “Lord you’re my Father and I’ll love & trust You until the end…. With all of my heart.” Give it a try!!!
